The Attachment-Based Care Certification

01Who we are and what this is

The Attachment-Based Care Certification ("the Course") is provided by Isla-Grace Sleep Canada Inc., operating as Isla-Grace ("we", "us", "our").

The Course is an online, self-paced educational programme about attachment-based care of infants and young children. It consists of recorded video modules, written module notes, a workbook, companion guides, and assessments.

By enrolling you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, do not enrol.

02What you are buying

On enrolment you receive:

  • Access to all twenty-two recorded modules
  • Downloadable written notes for each module
  • The workbook and the companion guides
  • Access to the assessments
  • A certificate of completion, once every module and assessment is complete

Access lasts two years from the date of enrolment. If your access expires and you need more time, contact us and we will extend it.

Access is granted to one named individual.

03What this Course is not

This is the most important section in these terms and you should read all of it.

3.1It is not a qualification to work with children. It is an approach, intended for people already working in childcare. It does not qualify you to begin working with children, and it does not replace any licence, registration, clearance, background check or certification required where you live or work.

3.2It is not accredited. It is not accredited, approved, endorsed or recognised by any government body, educational authority, or professional association in any jurisdiction. It is our own programme and our own standard.

3.3It does not teach first aid or resuscitation. The Course does not teach, assess or certify paediatric first aid, CPR, or choking response. These are essential to working with children and must be obtained separately from a qualified provider, and kept current. We do not verify whether you hold them.

3.4It is not medical, psychological, legal or clinical training. Nothing in the Course qualifies you to diagnose, assess, treat or advise on any medical, developmental, psychological or psychiatric condition in a child or an adult. Where the Course discusses signs or symptoms, it does so only to help you describe what you observe to the people responsible for the child.

3.5It does not verify anything about you. We do not conduct background checks, reference checks, identity verification, or checks on your right to work, your experience, or your qualifications. Completion of the Course says nothing about any of those things.

3.6It is not employment, placement, or a promise of either. Completing the Course does not entitle you to placement through Isla-Grace, referral to any family, or any work of any kind.

3.7It does not create a professional relationship. We are not your supervisor, employer, clinical supervisor or professional body. We do not oversee your work and are not responsible for it.

04Safety information and jurisdiction

4.1The Course is taught from Canada. Safety guidance referenced in it, including safe sleep guidance, is drawn from Canadian sources current at the time of recording.

4.2You are responsible for the guidance that applies where you work. Safety standards, reporting duties, licensing requirements and childcare regulations vary by country, province and state, and they change. You must find, read and follow the current published guidance in your own jurisdiction before relying on anything in the Course.

4.3Where you work in a licensed or regulated setting, your employer's policies and your setting's licensing requirements take precedence over anything in the Course.

4.4Guidance changes. The Course reflects information believed accurate at the time of recording. We do not undertake to update it as guidance changes, and content may become out of date.

4.5Reporting obligations are yours. Legal duties to report suspected harm or neglect to a child vary by jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to know what applies to you. Nothing in the Course removes, reduces or satisfies any such duty, and nothing in it constitutes legal advice.

4.6Material on parental distress. The Course contains general educational material on what to do if a parent discloses serious distress or risk. It is educational content, not legal or clinical advice, it does not cover the law in every jurisdiction, and it must not be relied upon as a protocol. In an emergency, contact your local emergency services.

05The Isla-Grace Standard

5.1On completing the Course you are asked to commit to the Isla-Grace Standard, our published code of conduct.

5.2That commitment is between you and the families or settings you work for. We do not monitor, supervise, investigate or enforce it. We are not present in any home or any setting, we have no means of verifying anyone's conduct, and we make no representation to any family that a person who has completed the Course is complying with it.

06What you may and may not call yourself

6.1You may state that you have completed the Attachment-Based Care Certification, or that you are trained in attachment-based care by Isla-Grace.

6.2You may not:

  • describe yourself as certified, accredited or licensed by any body other than Isla-Grace
  • imply that the Course is accredited, government-approved or officially recognised
  • imply that Isla-Grace has vetted, verified, screened or endorsed you personally
  • imply that Isla-Grace has placed you with, or recommended you to, any family or setting
  • use the Isla-Grace name, logo, marks or any badge, emblem or seal in your own marketing, on your website, on business cards, or on any social media profile or listing

6.3No badge, seal or logo is issued with this Course, and none may be created. Your certificate of completion is for your own records and for showing to a family or employer directly.

07Intellectual property

7.1All Course content, including videos, written modules, notes, the workbook, the companion guides, the companion books, assessments and all associated materials, is our intellectual property and is licensed to you for your own personal learning only.

7.2You may not:

  • share, resell, distribute, publish or upload any part of it
  • share your login or allow anyone else to use your access
  • record, screenshot, transcribe or reproduce the videos
  • use the content to teach, train or deliver instruction to others, whether paid or unpaid
  • use the content to create any derivative course, guide or programme

7.3You may print the written materials for your own use, and use the workbook in your own work.

7.4Breach of this section may result in access being revoked without refund, in addition to any other remedy available to us.

08Payment, access and refunds

8.1Prices are in US dollars and are shown at checkout.

8.2Payment is either in full at enrolment, or by instalments under a payment plan.

8.3Where you are on a payment plan, your access depends on the plan being kept up to date. If a payment fails and is not resolved, your access to the Course will be suspended and may be removed. We will contact you before removing access. Any amounts already paid are not refunded in that situation.

8.4Refunds: a seven day money-back guarantee.

A full refund is available if both of the following apply:

  • you request it within seven days of enrolment, and
  • you have not accessed beyond the first two modules. Opening Module 3 or anything after it ends eligibility.

This applies because the Course is downloadable in full. The first two modules are enough to know whether the approach is for you, which is deliberate: the position the Course takes is stated plainly in Module 1.

To request a refund, email [email protected] within the seven days.

8.5Outside those conditions the Course is non-refundable, except where a refund is required by law.

8.6Where somebody purchases on behalf of another person, the purchaser is the customer for payment and refund purposes, and Course access is granted to the named individual who will take it.

8.7Chargebacks. Initiating a chargeback without first contacting us may result in access being revoked.

09Assessments and the certificate

9.1Modules must be completed in order, and each module's assessment must be passed before the next module opens.

9.2Assessments are multiple choice, and every answer must be correct to move on. If you do not get them all right, you may retake the assessment immediately, and as many times as you need to. There is no penalty for retaking and no limit on attempts. The standard is high because the material matters, and the retakes are unlimited because the assessments exist to make sure it has landed, not to exclude anybody.

9.3Your certificate is issued immediately once every module and assessment is complete. There is nothing to wait for and nothing to apply for.

9.4The certificate confirms completion of this Course and nothing else. It is not a professional qualification, is not accredited, and does not attest to your competence, experience, suitability or safety as a caregiver.

9.5Your assessment answers are not shared with anybody. Where a family or an employer has purchased the Course for you, they are told whether you have completed it. They are not given your answers.

9.6Certificates are not withdrawn or revoked once issued, and they do not expire.

10Limitation of liability

10.1The Course is provided for educational purposes. You are responsible for your own conduct, decisions and professional judgement at all times.

10.2We are not liable for any loss, injury, harm or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Course, including in relation to any child in your care.

10.3Nothing in these terms excludes liability which cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

10.4Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the Course.

10.5You acknowledge that you are responsible for exercising your own judgement in every situation involving a child, that no course can anticipate every circumstance, and that where the Course and the guidance or instructions applying in your setting differ, you follow the latter.

11Your responsibilities

You confirm that:

11.1You are 18 or over.

11.2You will obtain and maintain current paediatric first aid and CPR, including infant and child choking response, appropriate to where you work.

11.3You will find and follow the current safety guidance, licensing requirements and reporting duties that apply in your own jurisdiction, and the policies of any setting you work in.

11.4You will hold all clearances, checks, registrations and permissions required for you to work with children where you live.

11.5You understand that this Course does not qualify you to work with children and is not accredited.

11.6You will not represent the Course, or your completion of it, as anything other than what it is.

12Privacy

12.1What we collect. We collect your name and email address only.

12.2Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card and billing details are collected and held by Stripe under their own terms and privacy policy. We do not receive, see or store your payment details.

12.3Course progress. Our course platform records which modules you have completed and your assessment results, so that the Course can unlock in order and your certificate can be issued.

12.4What we do with it. We use your name and email address to give you access to the Course, to send you the materials, and to contact you about the Course.

Enrolling adds you to our course email list, which is how we tell you about updates to the material, corrections, and new resources. You can unsubscribe at any time, and unsubscribing does not affect your access to the Course.

12.5What we do not do. We do not sell your information. We do not share your assessment answers with anybody, including a family or employer who purchased the Course for you.

12.6You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. Deleting your account ends your access to the Course.

13Changes

13.1We may update Course content at any time.

13.2We may amend these terms. Material changes will be notified to enrolled students by email.

14Governing law and disputes

14.1These terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them or the Course, are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable in it.

14.2You agree that the courts of the Province of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any such dispute, and you submit to that jurisdiction regardless of where you live or where you took the Course.

14.3Before beginning any legal proceeding, you agree to contact us at [email protected] and allow thirty days to resolve the matter directly.

14.4Any claim must be brought within one year of the event giving rise to it.

14.5If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
